The Federal Government announced the successful recipients of Round 2 funding from the Regional and Remote Communities Reliability Fund (RRCRF) in July 2021. We are excited to be partnering with Napranum community to investigate options for reliable and cost effective electricity supply.
Napranum currently sources its energy supply from Rio Tinto’s Weipa power station and would benefit from having a dedicated, sustainable on-site generation systems to future-proof the community and prepare for future decoupling from existing power supply when the Weipa town mining activity ceases.
Napranum is located 819 kilometers North West of Cairns on the western side of the Cape York Peninsula and is home to approximately 1000 Indigenous people. Our study will look at microgrid technologies to replace, upgrade or supplement existing electricity infrastructure and replace the current supply arrangements.
