Napranum

Napranum is a remote aboriginal community on the Western coast of Cape York Peninsula, adjacent to Weipa and approximately 600km north of Cairns.  It is the traditional home of the Alngith people with an estimated population of 1000 people.

The Napranum Microgrid Feasibility Study aims to analyse the options to showcase Napranum as a self-reliant, sustainable microgrid that can be implemented at other similar remote communities.

This report acknowledges the Traditional Owners, those people with historical association, and all members of the Napranum community, and their customs and traditions that have nurtured and managed the land and sea for centuries.

The authors of this report express their gratitude to the Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council for their invaluable advice and support in engaging with the Napranum community.

A special acknowledgment is extended to the people of Napranum for their warm welcome, hospitable nature, and willingness to share their time and experiences. The discussions held provided valuable insights into the challenges faced in remote locations such as Napranum and facilitated collaborative efforts towards building a more resilient community.
